Missing Coach Vanishes Amid Child Porn Charges
1 Dec
Summary
- High school football coach Travis Turner is missing.
- He disappeared days before facing child pornography charges.
- A large-scale search is ongoing in wooded areas.
The search for Union High School football coach Travis Turner, 46, continues nearly two weeks after he vanished into the woods behind his Virginia home. Turner was officially classified as an endangered missing person on November 22, two days after his disappearance, and is considered a fugitive by police. This comes just days before he was charged with five counts of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor.
Authorities deployed K-9 units, drones, and a helicopter to scour the densely wooded area near Turner's residence in Wise County, Virginia. Despite extensive efforts by both law enforcement and the Turner family, he remains missing. Experts suggest advanced search techniques like motion sensors or heat-sensing drones could aid the operation, while weather conditions are also a significant factor.
Turner's wife initially reported him missing on November 20, after he left to walk in the woods with a firearm and did not return. His family's attorney stated they have fully cooperated with law enforcement and asked for compassion and respect for their privacy during this difficult time, while also acknowledging the legal process for the allegations.
