Summary
- A stolen metal Tyrannosaurus rex statue was recovered by deputies.
- The dinosaur statue was discovered buried north of Deer Park.
- The investigation into the statue's March disappearance is ongoing.
Deputies with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office successfully located and returned a missing metal Tyrannosaurus rex statue over Memorial Day weekend. The shiny, silver statue, resembling a mylar balloon, was stolen from a roundabout in Mead more than two months prior.
Following an anonymous tip, deputies unearthed the approximately 400-pound statue on land north of Deer Park. The recovery involved tow trucks due to the statue's size and weight. The 'Rex' statue is a public art piece connected to the neighboring Fossil Park development.
While the statue sustained minor damage estimated at $70,000, the development company is arranging for repairs. The investigation into the theft, which occurred in March, remains active, with no arrests or charges filed as of yet. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Check.
