Scotland bids tearful farewell to murdered nine-year-old

A somber procession unfolded in Scotland as mourners gathered to bid a final farewell to nine-year-old Minnie Merriman. The young girl, who was found seriously injured at an industrial estate in Arbroath on August 3, tragically passed away at Ninewells Hospital.

Her devastated mother, Laurie Merriman, was visibly emotional during the procession, which saw a private ambulance carrying Minnie travel from Dundee to Arbroath. Accompanied by family, a piper, and a group of bikers, the procession moved slowly past streets lined with hundreds of tearful onlookers.

Tributes of flowers, balloons, and teddy bears were left at the site where Minnie was discovered, with the local community also observing a minute's silence in her honor. The family will now undertake a 280-mile journey back to their home in Yorkshire for a private funeral service.

A GoFundMe page established for the family has raised over £8,000 to help cover funeral expenses. Organizers expressed gratitude for the community's kindness and stated the funds will ensure Minnie receives a dignified farewell that celebrates her life.

Minnie's father, Christopher Rice, 35, of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, has been charged with murder in connection with her death. He appeared in court on August 5 and August 13, where he did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody.
