A 27-year-old man from northern Minnesota has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of another man and the subsequent arson of his residence. The crime occurred on July 25, 2024, leading to the death of Maxton Keith Gudowski. First responders discovered Gudowski's remains within a burning home in Duluth, Minnesota.
Evidence presented indicated a dispute between the defendant and the victim days prior at a bank. Surveillance footage also showed the defendant purchasing liquor shortly before the incident. Distinctive sunglasses, later found under the victim's body, were identified as belonging to the defendant.
Following the fire, the defendant was observed with a stain on his shorts and later seen wading in Lake Superior. He was apprehended by police while in a public restroom, where he provided a false name. The defendant's DNA was recovered from the victim and the scene, leading to his conviction.
