29 Sep
Summary
- Man accused of fatal August shooting in south Minneapolis alley.
- Surveillance footage and Shotspotter technology aided investigation.
- Suspect allegedly provided false statements to investigators.

Keshaun Schelven Coatie, 29, faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in a south Minneapolis alley on August 7. Responding officers discovered a man with gunshot wounds who later died at the scene. Surveillance footage captured Coatie and another individual near the victim's vehicle shortly before the incident, with Shotspotter technology confirming gunfire.
Evidence, including Coatie's fingerprint on a borrowed Dodge Charger and his DNA inside the vehicle, linked him to the crime. Cellphone data also correlated with the Charger's movements during the time of the homicide. When questioned on September 17, Coatie provided demonstrably false statements regarding his whereabouts and use of the vehicle, stating he had made a trip to Chicago when phone data indicated otherwise.
Coatie, who has a prior conviction for second-degree assault and is known to be involved in narcotics sales, remains in custody. He faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of the murder charge. He is also facing charges for illegal firearm possession and drug sales in a separate, unrelated case.
