Matthew Molinaro, 29, of Sterling Heights, is set to be tried for the first-degree premeditated murder of Milford resident Peyton Bilbia. The fatal stabbing occurred on New Year's Eve, and Molinaro was apprehended later that night in Royal Oak.
Authorities discovered Bilbia, who had sustained multiple stab wounds, after responding to a welfare check requested by his girlfriend. This girlfriend had a history with Molinaro, having previously dated him and obtained a personal protection order against him earlier in December.
Molinaro's preliminary exam concluded on May 28, with the case being bound over to Oakland County Circuit Court. His arraignment before Judge Yasmine Poles is scheduled for June 9.
Prosecutor Karen McDonald highlighted the case as a grim illustration of domestic violence dangers that can persist even after a relationship ends.
