Fake Olympic Sites Steal Data
18 Feb
Summary
- Scammers create near-identical sites for merchandise.
- Fraudulent ads offer up to 80% discounts on fake items.
- Victims risk data theft and receive no goods.

A wave of online scams is targeting consumers with fake Milano Cortina 2026 merchandise websites. Cybersecurity firm Bitdefender Labs reported that these sophisticated operations mimic the official store's appearance, including branding and product collections, to deceive shoppers in Europe and the United States. Fraudulent advertisements on Meta platforms promote steep discounts of up to 80%, enticing users to click through to these deceptive sites.
Upon visiting the lookalike websites, customers are vulnerable to having their payment details, addresses, phone numbers, and login credentials harvested. The scam is designed to be highly convincing, with subtle differences from the official site, such as extreme discount offers. Many of the fraudulent domains are registered shortly before their use and promoted via newly created social media pages, indicating a coordinated and rapidly rotating infrastructure aimed at avoiding detection. Victims often receive counterfeit merchandise or nothing, with no recourse for refunds as the rogue sites disappear quickly.
