A six-year-old boy was found wandering alone in Miami streets late Wednesday night, prompting an arrest for child neglect. The child, who has learning disabilities, was discovered near N.W. 7th Ave. and 17th St. He told authorities his mother had left him there. Miami Police located the mother, Annie Rivera, at a nearby apartment and subsequently arrested her.
Appearing before Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer on Friday morning, Rivera was charged with child neglect with great bodily harm. The judge ordered that Rivera have no unsupervised contact with her son, who is currently in the care of the Department of Children and Families pending a shelter hearing. Rivera was also instructed to surrender any firearms and refrain from criminal activity or drug possession.
