Miami Deputy Killed in Shooting, Suspect Takes Own Life

On November 11, 2025, a solemn memorial has been erected outside the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Kendall substation, honoring Deputy Devin Jaramillo, who was killed in the line of duty just days ago. The 27-year-old deputy's framed photo rests on the hood of his patrol car, surrounded by flowers, candles, and messages of support from the community and fellow officers.

Jaramillo was fatally shot while responding to a minor traffic crash along Southwest 128th Street. According to law enforcement sources, the driver involved in the crash, 21-year-old Steven Rustrian, fled the scene before being found nearby. Rustrian allegedly switched seats with his passenger and then struggled with Jaramillo when the deputy tried to arrest him. Rustrian then took Jaramillo's service weapon and shot the deputy multiple times, killing him, before turning the gun on himself.

Jaramillo's death has deeply affected both the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office and the Coral Gables Police Department, where he began his law enforcement career. Colleagues describe him as a caring officer who went above and beyond to connect with the community he served, whether it was with suspects, offenders, or victims. The outpouring of support from the public has been a source of comfort for the grieving officers.

Funeral arrangements for Deputy Jaramillo have not yet been finalized, but the community continues to mourn the loss of this dedicated public servant.
