Two Mexican citizens were apprehended in South Africa following the discovery of a significant crystal methamphetamine laboratory. The operation took place at a farm near Musina, located in the Limpopo province, close to the Zimbabwean border.
Police also arrested three other individuals – two from Zimbabwe and one from Malawi. The raid was the culmination of a two-month investigation into suspicious activities at the farm. Authorities seized drugs and laboratory equipment valued at an estimated 600 million rand (approximately $37 million), along with an unspecified amount of cash.
This bust is part of a concerning trend; South African police have dismantled numerous large methamphetamine laboratories on remote farms over the past two years. Several of these operations have involved Mexican nationals. Notably, in September of the previous year, five Mexicans were arrested after the dismantling of a crystal meth lab worth $20 million. Additionally, in July 2024, three Mexicans were among those arrested when a crystal meth lab with drugs valued at $108 million was uncovered in the Limpopo province.
