In a case of extreme violence, three men were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for their involvement in a machete attack that left a 23-year-old man with life-altering injuries. The victim narrowly avoided losing his leg after the assault, which occurred in Dewsbury in May of last year.
Sabeel Ayub, Faizaan Bashir, and Fahim Iqbal admitted to wounding with intent and received significant prison sentences. Ayub was jailed for 14 years and eight months plus a five-year license period. Bashir and Iqbal were each given 12-year sentences.
Authorities reported that the incident began when a car was deliberately driven at the victim before he was attacked with machetes. Police were alerted to fighting in broad daylight on Ravens Crescent, a scene that occurred while children were present nearby.
