A Melbourne mathematics teacher and father, Sunil Sharma, 66, has been murdered in India, according to police. His brother, Satish Sharma, has been charged with murder, along with Satish's wife and son, and a property dealer. Authorities in Amritsar allege that Satish and his son drugged Sunil before fatally striking him with a baseball bat.
Satish's wife and son are accused of helping to destroy evidence and dispose of Sunil's body in the Harike canal. Police believe a property dispute may have been the motive behind the killing. Sunil Sharma, an educator at Diamond Valley College, had traveled from Melbourne to sell two investment properties.
Sunil's daughter, Surbhi Sharma, expressed her grief and highlighted her father's positive character. She mentioned he was planning to retire in Melbourne. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed awareness of the incident and arrests.
