The individual, who identifies as male, allegedly plunged a knife into sushi chef Wan Lai on Little Bourke Street last October. Ms. Lai suffered serious chest injuries and continues to recover physically and emotionally.
Lawyers for the accused are preparing a bail application based on a mental impairment defense, with a psychological report commissioned. This individual has a documented history of serious drug use and episodes of severe mental unwellness. Previously, bail was granted by the Supreme Court in December and the accused was released into a mental health facility, but this was revoked just two days later.
