A large house in Monroe, New York, suffered extensive damage after nearly 1,000 people attended a party advertised on social media. The homeowner, Osher Zelik, had rented out the property for the weekend, unaware of the scale of the event, and has described it as a "nightmare" and an "organized scam."
Neighbors reported hundreds of cars lining the street and continuous loud music and fireworks from July 11th into the early morning of July 12th, with police being called multiple times. By the end of the event, the house was filled with garbage, cabinets were broken, windows were smashed, and a 150-year-old baby grand piano was destroyed. The septic system also backed up into the home.
The party was promoted online with an admission fee and a strategy to only reveal the address on the day of the event, referencing the movie "Project X." State Police responded to calls but stated no criminal activity was observed, and no criminal case has been opened regarding the damage.
Authorities are investigating how the event was organized and promoted. The homeowner is reportedly unable to contact the individual who rented the house, and Booking.com has not yet provided a response regarding the incident. Neighbors have expressed sympathy for the owner, highlighting the need for caution in vetting renters for short-term accommodations.
