Authorities have dismantled three fentanyl packaging mills in the Bronx, leading to the confiscation of approximately 90 pounds of the dangerous drug. The combined street value of the seized fentanyl is estimated at $7.5 million. This precision takedown was a collaborative effort involving the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the New York City Police Department (NYPD), and the New York City Special Prosecutor's Office.
The operation uncovered three unrelated packaging mills located within a three-mile radius. These sites were situated in residential apartment buildings in the Mount Eden and Belmont sections of the Bronx, as well as in Washington Heights. The mills were found to be operating near families and schools, highlighting the significant risk to public safety.
During the raids, investigators recovered hundreds of thousands of glassines filled with fentanyl ready for distribution, along with over $30,000 in cash and two loaded firearms. Eight individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody, facing numerous drug charges. One NYPD K-9 unit required Narcan after exposure during a raid, but has since recovered.
