Authorities successfully thwarted a planned mass shooting at a Hindu temple in Aurora, a Chicago suburb, with the arrest of Alexandros Paporakis, a 19-year-old identified as a neo-Nazi. Paporakis allegedly drove to the temple armed with a modified rifle, 300 rounds of ammunition, and tactical gear, but the weapon malfunctioned.
Upon returning home, Paporakis searched for ways to fix the gun and allegedly informed a colleague of the intent to commit mass murder. Coworkers at Taco Bell reported suspicious messages, leading police to secure a warrant and apprehend Paporakis.
Investigators discovered an eight-page manifesto detailing Paporakis' white supremacist views, expressing hatred towards Indian, Jewish, and African-American people, whom the suspect referred to as 'subhumans.' The manifesto also referred to the suspect as the 'Aurora Shooter.'
Paporakis, who is undergoing hormone therapy and receiving treatment for ADHD, depression, and anxiety, was ordered held without bond. The temple has since increased its security measures in response to the averted threat.
