A fraud case involving approximately Rs 47 lakh has reportedly ensnared Marathi actor Varsha Usgaonkar and other individuals from the entertainment industry. The Mumbai Police are investigating Avinash Jadhav, who allegedly deceived victims by presenting himself as a builder and film producer.
Between November 2019 and February 2020, Jadhav allegedly pitched an investment opportunity in a Dombivli construction project. He assured investors of substantial profits and the return of their principal within a year, leading them to transfer money via cheques and online transactions.
While some investors received a partial repayment of Rs 4.52 lakh, Jadhav allegedly ceased further payments and became unreachable by changing his mobile number and address. When confronted in Dombivli, he reportedly refused to repay the funds, daring victims to take legal action.
The Shivaji Park Police have registered a case against Jadhav under sections related to cheating and criminal intimidation. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining financial transactions and seeking to identify any additional victims.
