A father-of-two has had his left foot amputated after a severe collision in a Sainsbury's car park on October 27. Lewis Rimmer, 41, was struck by a Range Rover while on his way to buy a lottery ticket.
Surgeons at Royal Preston Hospital worked to save Rimmer's life following the incident. He spent three weeks on life support and underwent over 40 hours of surgery, which included the amputation of his foot due to irreparable damage.
Rimmer sustained numerous critical injuries, including a broken pelvis, fractures in both femurs, a compound fracture to his right shin, and severe damage to his left foot. He also required treatment for a ruptured bladder, two bowel ruptures, and three fractured ribs.
Michael Corris, 57, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs. He is scheduled to appear at Wigan Magistrates Court on August 21. Rimmer's family has expressed pride in their children's resilience throughout this challenging period.
