Manchester walkway to close due to 'undesirable' behaviour
29 May
Summary
- A city centre walkway in Manchester may be closed.
- The closure is due to ongoing antisocial behaviour concerns.
- Up to 2,000 people use the route daily.

Plans are in motion to close a busy walkway in Manchester city centre, a route utilized by as many as 2,000 individuals each day. This path, situated between Piccadilly Gardens and Portland Street, runs through the ground floor of the One Piccadilly office block.
The proposal arises from repeated incidents of antisocial behaviour and ongoing worries about the space's undesirable use. Manchester City Council's planning committee has approved the scheme.
A planning officer indicated that the closure would not significantly impact general movements within the area. However, two objectors voiced concerns that this move could negatively affect local food and drink businesses situated on the building's ground floor.
