A 24-year-old man succumbed to critical injuries following a brutal torture incident allegedly stemming from a Ganesh mandal rivalry. Rohit Anil Pathare was reportedly abducted from his Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar home on October 31.
He was subsequently tied to a tree in an agricultural field and subjected to severe violence using swords, iron rods, and axes. The attackers also allegedly used stones to crush his legs and a screwdriver for stabbing.
Pathare was rushed to a Shirdi hospital but died late Tuesday night. The incident ignited significant public anger, leading to protests and a highway blockade by relatives and residents demanding immediate arrests.
In a desperate act, the victim's mother reportedly attempted self-immolation at the Vaijapur police station early Wednesday morning. Police intervened and prevented the tragedy.
Authorities have registered a murder case against 26 individuals, with ongoing investigations into the connection between the killing and the Ganesh festival dispute.
