In a bizarre incident on Friday afternoon, a 32-year-old man was apprehended by police at a central Auckland jewellery store, Partridge Jewellers. Staff reported that the man had allegedly picked up and then swallowed an 18-karat gold Fabergé egg pendant, valued at over $33,500. The intricate locket, part of a special edition collaboration with the James Bond franchise, features diamonds and sapphires, with a hidden miniature octopus inside.
Authorities confirmed that the man has been charged with theft in relation to the Fabergé egg, which remains unrecovered. The unique piece is crafted from 18-karat yellow gold, adorned with green guilloché enamel, 60 white diamonds, and 15 blue sapphires. This specific item is known for its "surprise" element, revealing a tiny gold octopus with black diamond eyes when opened.
