On Sunday, July 19, 2026, Jorge Huitron Damian, 30, was fatally shot at a Cerritos restaurant after a violent encounter. Damian, a Norwalk resident, had stolen a pickup truck earlier that day. He entered the Lucille's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que carrying a knife, where he inflicted multiple self-inflicted neck wounds.
Witnesses described the scene as horrific as Damian ran through the restaurant, brandishing the knife. He was confronted by a customer who possessed a concealed carry permit. After issuing commands for Damian to drop the weapon, the customer fired multiple shots when Damian charged him.
Damian died at the scene from the gunshot wounds. The armed customer remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The incident is preliminarily considered lawful self-defense, though findings will be presented to the District Attorney's Office.
