Sheffield Man Ordered to Repay £90k After Wrongful Credit Conviction

A Sheffield man, Simon Jackson, 50, has been ordered to repay more than £90,000 following his conviction for retaining a wrongful credit. In 2021, Jackson posted an item for sale online and, after claiming it was sold off-site, received an accidental refund of £300,245 when a seller's fee was cancelled.
Jackson immediately transferred the substantial sum into his own bank accounts within 48 hours, fully aware of the error. He then embarked on a two-month spending spree, purchasing luxury items and cash gifts for friends. This led to his conviction for retaining a wrongful credit, for which he was jailed for 12 months in October 2024.
On September 11, 2026, Sheffield Crown Court mandated Jackson to repay £91,438 within three months. Failure to comply will result in an additional three-year custodial sentence. Authorities are continuing efforts to recover the outstanding criminal benefit.
