In Mayurbhanj district, a shocking incident unfolded on Thursday when Tapan Singh, 33, was apprehended for the alleged murder of his mother, Raimani Singh, 60. The motive appears rooted in Tapan's deep-seated belief that his mother practiced witchcraft.
Singh reportedly blamed his mother for his wife's recurring miscarriages, a belief that intensified domestic disputes. His wife had recently left their home due to these conflicts. Villagers noted Tapan's increasingly erratic behavior and accusations against his mother.
The fatal attack occurred on Thursday morning during a heated argument over money. When Raimani, a daily-wage laborer, refused to provide funds, Tapan allegedly used a sharp weapon, causing her death instantly. Police have seized the weapon and initiated a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are investigating the precise sequence of events, considering the roles of superstition and potential mental health issues. The scientific team has also examined the crime scene as the investigation continues.
