In Meerut's Hastinapur area, a 29-year-old daily-wager, Sanjay Das, is accused of murdering his 55-year-old mother, Nirmala Devi. The alleged crime occurred after a heated argument on Saturday concerning the mother's practice of distributing food to neighbors. Das reportedly strangled his mother in a fit of rage.
Following the incident in Garhi colony, Das, who had returned home two days prior, tried to deceive neighbors by stating his mother died of a heart attack. However, the locals, suspecting foul play, contacted the police instead of proceeding with traditional rites. Police apprehended Das after his confession during questioning.
This is not the first violent incident involving Das; he was released from jail approximately eight months ago. He had been accused of killing his 21-day-old son in November 2024, allegedly due to suspicions about paternity. His wife had filed a case against him for that alleged crime. The body of Nirmala Devi has been sent for a postmortem.
