In Stirlingshire, Thomas McCallum, 35, has been sentenced to 10 and a half years imprisonment for the attempted murder of his cousin, Roddy Stewart, 44. The High Court in Stirling heard that McCallum stabbed Stewart twice in the stomach and upper torso in May 2024. Stewart's injuries were severe, with his intestines protruding from his body, requiring emergency surgery.
The incident followed an altercation where Stewart had gone to a woman's home. While the exact circumstances are disputed, evidence suggested Stewart had been shouting about money and threats. The woman's partner reportedly struck Stewart with a golf club, and Stewart retaliated with a broken bottle before McCallum inflicted the stab wounds.
McCallum denied the charge, claiming the stabbing was committed by George Williamson, who has since died. However, jurors found McCallum guilty, concluding he acted with murderous intent or complete disregard for Stewart's life. The judge noted the attack was unprovoked. Stewart will be monitored in the community for five years post-release.
