Summary
- Man jailed for 16 years after paralyzing partner.
- Victim endured eight years of abuse before attack.
- Attacker falsely claimed victim fell from bed.

Robert Easom, 57, has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for a vicious assault that left his partner permanently paralyzed. The attack occurred on February 17, 2025, after the victim declared their relationship over. Easom, from Chipping near Preston, had subjected her to an eight-year period of coercive and controlling behavior, alongside verbal and physical abuse.
Following the attack, Easom falsely reported that his partner had fallen out of bed. However, police investigations revealed a pattern of abuse, including incidents like dragging her by the head, strangulation, and threats. The victim meticulously documented the abuse, describing a cycle of violence followed by remorse from Easom.
During an 11-hour surgery post-attack, the victim's spinal cord was severed, leading to paralysis and a three-month stay in critical care. She stated she was "trapped in a broken body" and described Easom's "Jekyll and Hyde" personality. Detective Constable Bethanie Kirk condemned Easom as manipulative and cowardly, hoping the case encourages other abuse victims to seek help.
