A controlling husband, Syed Rafay Ahmad, 45, has been jailed for life for the murder of his wife, Anam Rafay, 36. The brutal attack occurred on January 27 in their home in Lulworth Gardens, Wythenshawe, Manchester. Ahmad stabbed his wife approximately 40 times with a kitchen knife.
The incident followed Anam Rafay informing her husband that she wanted a divorce. While his wife was at the kitchen sink, Ahmad launched the violent assault. She managed to escape to a neighbour's house but collapsed outside, where Ahmad continued the stabbing.
After the attack, Ahmad sent a message to a family WhatsApp group and Anam's father, stating, "I have killed my wife." He later changed his plea to guilty at Manchester Crown Court. Ahmad has been sentenced to a minimum of 27 years and four months in prison.
