Man Jailed for Brutal 22-Stab Attack on Ex-Partner

A man who brutally stabbed his ex-partner 22 times in front of her children has been sentenced to 22 years and four months in prison. Jake Joe Bamber, 35, hid in a cupboard at his ex-partner's home before launching a prolonged and violent attack. The victim suffered severe injuries, including collapsed lungs and wounds to her chest, abdomen, legs, head, and back. The judge described Bamber's remorse as "performative and self-serving," emphasizing his clear determination to kill the victim.

Bamber gained unlawful entry to the property on January 10, 2026, while on bail for previous offenses against the woman. He attacked her in the bathroom, continuing the assault even after her children screamed for him to stop and she fell down the stairs. His knife broke during the assault, highlighting the ferocity of the attack, before he retrieved a second, larger knife. He inflicted superficial injuries upon himself before fleeing and being arrested.

The victim described her life as changed "beyond recognition," feeling hunted and that a part of her died that night. She expressed the horror of her children witnessing the attack, their terror, and their pleas for her life. The victim's mother stated the children had become withdrawn and traumatized. The judge stressed the profound impact on the children, who are trying to process the event of seeing their mother attacked.

Bamber's prior controlling and stalking behavior included breaking into her home, moving items, shouting through her letterbox, and jumping out at her. He had previously been violent, smashing her head into a mirror. After their relationship ended, he moved nearby to spy on her. The victim changed her locks the morning of the attack, indicating Bamber may have been hiding inside for many hours. A neighbor's courageous intervention through a window is credited with saving the victim's life.
