Michael Meszaros, 65, of Cheltenham, has been issued an indefinite restraining order and an 18-month suspended prison sentence for stalking healthcare workers. Meszaros pleaded guilty to three counts of stalking at Gloucester Crown Court.
He targeted staff at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, and Hope Care Service Agency, believing they failed to provide adequate care for his late wife, Lucy. Meszaros acted as his wife's full-time carer after her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2004 and later dementia diagnosis in 2017.
Between February 2021 and March 2024, Meszaros filmed NHS staff at their workplaces and posted derogatory remarks about them online. This behavior caused significant distress to the victims, with some reporting anxiety, nightmares, and needing to be escorted to their cars. One care worker stated she began taking anti-depressants after being targeted.
Recorder Richard Mawhinney acknowledged Meszaros's profound grief over his wife's death in 2023. While recognizing Meszaros's remorse and health conditions, the court emphasized the severe alarm and psychological harm caused by his actions.
