David Hartsook, 37, has received a life sentence without parole for the 2022 murder of security guard Troy Rickenbach. The conviction stems from an incident on August 6, 2022, in New Morgan, Berks County, where Rickenbach was fatally shot and a colleague, Rafael Yambo, was wounded.
The guards were on duty at an industrial property targeted by thieves stealing catalytic converters. Yambo observed suspicious activity near a van and alerted authorities while Rickenbach approached the vehicle. Rickenbach returned to the security van and reported someone inside before gunfire erupted, striking both guards.
An autopsy confirmed Rickenbach died from a gunshot wound. Hartsook's arrest came in May 2023 after a former associate provided details about Hartsook's involvement in catalytic converter thefts and the events of that night. Hartsook was apprehended at his York County residence.
