Manslaughter Convict Found With Cocaine Stash

Steven Vonk, already serving a three-year sentence for manslaughter, has received an additional two-and-a-half-year prison term. The sentence, which will run consecutively, was imposed after police discovered a significant quantity of cocaine in his Swansea flat. Officers found 121g of cocaine, with a street value up to £9,680, along with over £900 in cash, when they went to arrest him for the prior offense.

During his trial for drug offenses, Vonk asserted the 121g of cocaine was for his personal consumption, estimating a daily usage rate. He explained his habit, costing approximately £18,000 annually, was funded through benefits and informal jobs. Despite his claims, a jury found him guilty of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

Vonk was originally sentenced last November for the manslaughter of Timmy Matthews. The fatal incident occurred on July 25, 2025, when Vonk punched Mr. Matthews outside a Swansea pub, causing severe brain injuries from which he later died. Mr. Matthews' daughter described the profound grief caused by the loss of her father.
