Neighbour Fined £100 for Fat-Shaming Argument
6 Dec
Summary
- Man fined £100 for verbally abusing neighbor about her weight.
- Insomnia and mother's death cited as reasons for distress caused.
- A 12-month restraining order prevents contact with the victim.

A man has been ordered to pay £100 after a verbal altercation involving his neighbor, Sarah Allen, during which he made comments about her weight. Aaron Quinn, 33, pleaded guilty to using insulting words or behavior to cause harassment, alarm, or distress, as well as criminal damage to a property fixture.
During the proceedings, Quinn's defense cited his mother's recent passing and chronic insomnia as contributing factors to his distress and subsequent actions. These personal struggles were presented as context for the 'sustained incident' of verbal abuse directed at Ms. Allen, which caused her significant distress.
In addition to the fine and a surcharge, Quinn received a 12-month restraining order preventing any contact with Ms. Allen. He was also penalized for damaging an outdoor light during a separate argument with another neighbor on the same day. Quinn has since relocated.
