An Arizona man, identified only as Carlos, was detained in connection with the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, but has since been released. Carlos stated he had never heard of Nancy Guthrie prior to his detention. Authorities stopped him in Rio Rico, Arizona, and also searched his home.
He recounted being told he was being detained for kidnapping and expressed his innocence, asserting that law enforcement was pursuing the wrong leads. The search for the 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie commenced on February 1 after a church friend noted her absence. The Pima County Sheriff's Department suspected abduction due to the crime scene and her limited mobility.
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information that leads to Nancy Guthrie's recovery or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance. Her children have publicly appealed for information regarding her whereabouts.
