A man accused of throwing his girlfriend from a fourth-floor tower block told his trial that she jumped out of the window. Jordan Herring, 22, denies attempted murder after his 18-year-old partner fell from his mother's flat in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, on November 12, 2022. The victim sustained a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs.
Herring testified that they had argued about trust and alleged cheating, both having consumed cannabis beforehand. He claimed his partner climbed onto the window sill and screamed she was going to climb out, stating he tried to grab her but failed. The court heard the victim had a history of self-harming behaviors. Herring also expressed shock and being "stoned" after the fall.
CCTV footage showed Herring walking downstairs after the fall. He explained his hesitation to immediately aid the victim, attributing it to shock and drug influence. He carried her back upstairs rather than calling emergency services, as his phone lacked a SIM card. His mother eventually called for an ambulance over an hour later, expressing fear he might harm his girlfriend.
