A man from Gloucester County is facing a murder charge following the death of a woman he allegedly strangled. Dennis J. Hall, 71, was arrested after calling authorities to report that a 40-year-old woman was not breathing at his East Avenue home on June 11.
Hall confessed to strangling the victim during his call to emergency services and again to officers upon their arrival. A witness corroborated his confession. Emergency personnel attempted to save the woman's life, and she was transported to a local hospital.
The victim, identified as Devin Hall, was taken off life support and pronounced deceased on June 12. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation, classifying the manner of death as homicide.
Initially charged with attempted murder, Hall's charge was upgraded to first-degree murder after the victim's death and autopsy results. He is currently detained, with prosecutors seeking to keep him jailed until his trial.
