Wilmer Long Crow, 45, is facing serious charges including aggravated assault and abuse of an elder after allegedly severely injuring a 68-year-old man in Winner, South Dakota. The incident occurred in April, and Long Crow pleaded not guilty on May 28.
Officers responding to an assault report found Doug Zimbelman bleeding from his right eye, with significant damage to the skin and socket, alongside other injuries. Zimbelman stated Long Crow assaulted him after he picked up Long Crow's girlfriend, with whom he was reportedly having an argument.
Witnesses corroborated that the altercation was related to Long Crow's girlfriend. Long Crow, who showed signs of alcohol consumption with a BAC of 0.123, admitted to the assault after initially offering a different explanation for blood found on his shirt.
Due to the severity of Zimbelman's injuries, including a papyracea fracture requiring oculoplasty surgery, the charges were upgraded. Long Crow is scheduled for a motions hearing on June 11.
