A disturbing discovery was made in Butler County where a man has been charged with abuse of a corpse. Officers were alerted to a possible deceased person at an apartment building on North Main Street.
Upon receiving consent to enter the residence, authorities found a body concealed within a trash receptacle. Evidence suggested the individual had been deceased for several days.
The Butler County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy. Following an interview, 64-year-old Cavell Watkins was identified as the resident and suspect.
Watkins reportedly admitted to placing the body in the trash receptacle several days after the man's death, which he believed was due to a drug overdose. He now faces felony delivery of narcotics and misdemeanor abuse of corpse charges and is held in Butler County Prison.
The victim's identity is currently being withheld pending formal identification and notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing, with final toxicology results pending.
