28 Apr
Summary
- Man brought deceased sister's skeletal remains to a bank.
- Bank employees insisted on the account holder's presence for withdrawal.
- The administration has taken serious note of the bank's conduct.

In a shocking incident on April 27, Jeetu Munda carried the skeletal remains of his elder sister, Kalra Munda, to a bank branch in Odisha's Keonjhar district. Munda, a resident of Dianali village, was attempting to withdraw ₹20,000 from his sister's account. Kalra Munda had passed away on January 25, nearly two months before the incident.
Bank officials at the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank reportedly insisted that the account holder be present for the withdrawal. Despite Munda explaining his sister's death, they allegedly did not accept the death certificate as sufficient proof. Frustrated by the repeated refusals, Munda resorted to digging up his sister's grave to bring her remains to the bank.
The local administration has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, with the Block Development Officer confirming that steps would be taken to resolve the matter. The Patana Police Station Inspector-in-Charge noted that Munda, being an illiterate tribal man, was unaware of legal procedures like heir or nominee identification. Bank sources indicated the nominee had also passed away, leaving Munda as the sole claimant.
Authorities have directed the bank to release the funds to Munda as per rules promptly. The administration has pledged to investigate the bank employees' conduct and ensure appropriate action is taken against those responsible for the inhuman approach.
