In September 2025, an assault took place in Monmouth following a drinking session. James Beaumont, 43, attacked his 75-year-old stepfather, Martyn Sumner, while the victim was watching the television program Emmerdale.
The attack, which involved a vacuum cleaner and punching, was reportedly unprovoked and occurred after Beaumont began mocking Mr. Sumner for his choice of television program. The incident transpired after the pair had visited a Wetherspoons pub together.
Beaumont later admitted to the assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Cardiff Crown Court. He was subsequently handed a 12-month community order and instructed to complete 150 hours of unpaid work for his actions.
