The situation dramatically escalated when Massey reportedly stabbed the employee multiple times. Police were dispatched to the scene and found the victim with life-threatening injuries. The injured employee was transported to a trauma center and is reportedly recovering.
Massey was apprehended by police a short distance away. He has been charged with several offenses, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and making terroristic threats. He is currently being held without bail pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 16.
A representative for Planet Fitness stated that the safety of their team members and members is a top priority. The gym's policy explicitly states that verbal or physical harassment is not tolerated and can result in membership cancellation. The Cheltenham Township Planet Fitness was temporarily closed following the incident.
