- Victim allegedly blackmailed accused over objectionable videos.
- Couple from Punjab, both married, lived together in Hapur.

A married man from Punjab, Amrit Lal, was apprehended by police in Hapur district for allegedly murdering his longtime girlfriend, Anu Devi. The accused confessed to strangling Anu Devi, aged 30, in a rented house in the Dhoulana area. Police reported that the couple, both originally from Ludhiana, met three years prior and their relationship escalated.
The situation reportedly soured when Anu Devi began demanding that Amrit Lal divorce his wife and marry her. He claimed she had recorded compromising videos and was using them to blackmail him. To escape this pressure and avoid social shame, Amrit Lal allegedly devised a plan.
He brought Anu Devi to Hapur, and they rented a house, posing as a married couple. Ten days before the incident, Amrit Lal committed the murder, strangling her with her dupatta. The landlord discovered the decomposed body after noticing a foul odor, leading to the police investigation and the suspect's subsequent arrest.
