A man has been arrested in Tiruvarur for allegedly attempting to set revenue officials on fire following a dispute over land documents. The accused, identified as R Ramki, 32, from Thalavayiruppu Velangudi, reportedly took this drastic action after his repeated petitions for documents related to government land where he lives were denied.
Ramki became incensed upon learning that the land documents were recently issued to another individual. On Tuesday, he went to the revenue divisional office, doused several staff members with diesel from a can, and attempted to set them ablaze. Fortunately, other officials present managed to intervene and apprehend Ramki.
During the confrontation, one of the officials accidentally fell and sustained minor injuries. Police were called to the scene and promptly arrested Ramki, who was later transferred to Nannilam sub-jail. The incident highlights the serious frustrations that can arise from land disputes.
