The motive behind the brutal act reportedly stemmed from ongoing taunts directed at Anand concerning his sister's elopement with a man of a different caste. Anand, with the alleged assistance of Arjun, a relative of the victims, devised a plan that included not only the murders but also the robbery of the victims' house. Their targets included jewelry intended for a wedding scheduled for February 18.
