In Maharashtra, authorities have uncovered a distressing egg donation racket that exploited vulnerable women. The scheme offered victims ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per cycle to donate eggs, leading to significant physical exploitation.
Victims were taken to IVF centers where their eggs were surgically extracted and subsequently sold for large sums, reportedly fetching lakhs. Police have arrested three women in connection with this illegal trade, which was operated from a residential apartment and a sonography center in Badlapur East.
Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar has pledged a thorough investigation into the matter. He stated that the health services director is coordinating with the police to conduct a fact-based probe. Any officials or outsourced agencies found complicit will face severe penalties, including blacklisting, as the state government maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward such serious offenses.
