A 26-year-old man, Balamurugan, has been arrested for allegedly murdering Sappani Saravanan, 57, avenging his father Pushparaj's killing from 2001. The incident occurred near Solai Alagupuram in Madurai on Saturday.
Pushparaj, a known figure from West Masi Street, was murdered by an eight-member gang. Saravanan was identified as one of the accused in that case. Police reported that five of the original accused have since died, three of them murdered by Pushparaj's associates.
Balamurugan allegedly planned this attack for an opportunity to kill Saravanan. He and 11 accomplices were arrested within five hours and remanded in judicial custody. The investigation into the elaborate 25-year-long vendetta is ongoing.
