A 45-year-old woman, Poonam Pandey, was killed in her Ludhiana home on Saturday following a violent domestic dispute involving her son-in-law. The suspect, Vikram Rai, allegedly opened fire when his wife, Sakshi, refused to return to their marital home, which she had left after six months of marriage due to strife.
Pandey's intervention in the argument between Sakshi and Rai proved fatal. Police stated that Rai's firearm initially malfunctioned, but he fired again, striking Poonam Pandey in the head. Authorities are investigating whether the shot was intentional or accidental as she may have been shielding her daughter.
An accomplice of Rai, identified as Sunil, reportedly waited outside on a motorcycle. Both men fled the scene after the shooting. Local residents assisted in transporting Pandey to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are actively pursuing the accused and recording family statements to file a formal report.
