Summary
- Two war memorial sites in Lowestoft were defaced with paint and graffiti.

- Council vows to clean memorials before Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.
Two key war memorial sites in Lowestoft have been defaced, just days before Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. The Lowestoft Naval Memorial at Belle Vue Park was sprayed with red paint, while a seating area near the Royal Plain war monument was covered in black graffiti. Police have arrested a 19-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage in relation to the Belle Vue Park vandalism; they have since been bailed until December 22.
The Lowestoft Town Council has assured the public that despite the challenging nature of the vandalism, both sites will be thoroughly cleaned and ready for remembrance events. The Naval Memorial honours almost 2,400 officers of the Royal Naval Patrol Service, while the Royal Plain monument commemorates 716 Lowestoft men lost in World War One. The defaced seating area near Royal Plain was installed only last year.
