A 40-year-old lorry driver, Jakub Jan Konkel, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for smuggling cocaine valued at approximately $7.2 million. Konkel was intercepted by border officials in Essex while driving a truck containing 28 pallets of Skims clothing, a brand co-founded by Kim Kardashian. The drugs were discovered in 1kg packages concealed within a secret compartment near the lorry's rear doors.
Officials from the National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed that Konkel had made a 16-minute stop en route, believed to be when the cocaine was loaded. He was paid $3,900 to transport the illicit cargo. The NCA emphasized that organized crime groups exploit seemingly legitimate shipments and drivers to move drugs, causing significant harm to UK communities. Both the exporter and importer of the Skims clothing were unaware of the smuggled contraband.
