London Arrests in Antisemitic Arson Probe
4 May
Summary
- Two individuals arrested in East London in connection with arson at memorial wall.
- Arrests are part of an ongoing Counter Terrorism Policing investigation.
- The UK's terror threat level has been raised to severe following recent incidents.

In East London, two individuals, a 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, were apprehended by Metropolitan Police on Monday morning at a residence in Romford. These arrests are directly linked to a reported arson attack on a memorial wall in Limes Avenue, which occurred early on April 27. The memorial wall honors individuals, including those killed in Iran and at the Nova music festival in Israel.
The investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London, which is examining a series of suspected antisemitic arson attacks in the region. Commander Helen Flanagan stated their commitment to protecting vulnerable communities and highlighted extensive inquiries leading to these arrests. CTP London is involved in multiple investigations following incidents since March.
These developments follow a recent terrorist attack where two Jewish men were stabbed and wounded in Golders Green. The attacker, Essa Suleiman, 45, is a Somalian-born British national. Consequently, the country's terror threat level has been elevated to severe, signifying that a terrorist attack is highly probable.
